"The contract may be unclear, may include provisions that allow the other party to change it, or include provisions that you may be better off not agreeing to, such as an arbitration agreement," she says.įor example, immediately following the breach, Equifax introduced its free TrustedID Premier product, which lets consumers lock their credit and provides credit monitoring. "Having a contractual agreement is not as strong as having protections under law," Tetreault says. By contrast, a credit lock is simply an agreement between you and the credit reporting agency. Perhaps the main reason a security freeze is the better option is that its promise to guard your credit accounts is guaranteed by law, Tetreault says. ![]() Here's a look at the key differences between a credit lock and credit freeze. A credit freeze offers more stringent legal protections, making it the better option for consumers, according to Christina Tetreault, a staff attorney on the financial services team at Consumers Union, the advocacy division of Consumer Reports. However, there are some important differences to keep in mind when deciding which tool to use. Equifax, for instance, offers a new product called "Lock & Alert" free for life. To entice consumers to use credit locks, the credit bureaus cite convenience and may offer special deals. They both prevent others from accessing your credit information, eliminating the possibility that a fraudster could open a new credit account in your name. However, each bureau is now offering credit lock tools, sometimes with hefty monthly costs, as alternatives to credit freezes.Ĭredit locks and freezes are similar. ![]() ![]() Consumers worried about identity theft after last year's massive Equifax data breach can finally freeze their credit reports at all three credit bureaus free of charge.

There are various reasons why people might decide to circumcise their babies.įor instance, Jewish and Muslim people often circumcise their babies as a religious and cultural tradition. It’s time to talk about uncircumcised penises. ![]() If a piano technician says a piano is not tunable, does that mean the piano should be disposed of? How soon you notice it depends on such factors as the design of the piano (though, interestingly, not necessarily on its quality), the various pressures and tensions being exerted on the soundboard and structural elements, climatic changes, your ear and sensitivity to out-of-tuneness, and on the kind of music you play. It just may take a while before you notice it. Why do some pianos stay in tune longer than others?Īctually, all pianos go out of tune continuously. Teachers and performers who use the piano more, or need to maintain optimal performance, should budget accordingly. For most piano owners, budgeting an average of $300 to $500 per year will suffice, although the actual outlay will be less in some years and more in others. In addition, every so often a piano will need regulating (adjusting the piano action to compensate for wear and bring it back to the manufacturer's specs), voicing (adjusting the tone for changes that take place as a result of use), internal cleaning, and repairs. Typically a piano will be tuned twice a year at a cost of $100 to $200 per tuning, depending on geographic region and the experience and reputation of the tuner. It depends on how much you play and on how conscientious you want to be about piano maintenance. How much does it cost to maintain an acoustic piano? ![]() The tuning changes continuously, and the only ways to adapt to it are to have the piano tuned more frequently, to institute some kind of indoor or in-piano humidity control, or to put up with some amount of out-of-tuneness. ![]() However, if you are sensitive to tuning, it may be difficult or impossible to time the tunings to the indoor humidity changes in such a way that you will be satisfied most of the time, especially in climates with cold winters. Otherwise, the piano may go out of tune very shortly after being tuned. For this reason, it’s best to wait for at least a few weeks after turning the heat on or off before having the piano tuned. When the heat is turned on or off for the season, the indoor humidity, and consequently the tuning, begins to change, and these changes may continue for weeks or months afterward. You will get the most for your money if you have the piano tuned at times of the year when the tuning will remain stable for some time. Concert pianos are generally tuned (or the tuning touched up) before every performance.Īt what time of the year should I have my piano tuned? Does it matter? ![]() Professional musicians and teachers may require more frequent service. For most people, one to three times per year is about right. How often your piano should be tuned depends on how sensitive you are to out-of-tuneness, how sensitive your piano is to the humidity changes that cause a piano to go out of tune, the climate you live in, how much you play, and your budget. Also, a piano in poor condition, with the tuning pins loose in the pinblock, can go out of tune because it is unable to hold the string tension constant. This happens whether or not the piano is played. Although the tuner may also perform other adjustments to the piano at the same visit, strictly speaking, only the above process constitutes “tuning.”Ī piano in good condition goes out of tune primarily because its soundboard and other wooden parts expand and contract with changes in humidity, which changes the tension on the strings. Tuning is the process of adjusting the tension at which the strings are stretched, using a wrench called a tuning hammer, so that all the strings vibrate in pleasing harmony with one another in accordance with certain acoustical laws and aesthetic and musical customs. To win Sequence players/ teams need to build the required number of Sequences. You have to announce you are doing this beforehand though. If this happens then you can discard the card and then take a replacement from the deck. Basically, if you are dealt a card you can’t play, it’s a dead card. Dead Cardsĭead cards are cards that have no open space on the board. So, it’s best to use one-eyed Jacks quickly, as once a Sequence is complete, it can’t be undone. However, you can only remove chips in non-completed Sequences. One-eyed Jacks can be used to remove another player/ team’s poker chip. Two-eyed Jacks can represent any card on the board, so you can use them to place a chip on any space. In fact, Jacks are quite useful in Sequence. However, getting dealt a Jack isn’t a bad thing. Jacks are the only cards (aside from Jokers) not on the Sequence board. While these are the fundamentals of the game, there is still more to learn. This can leave you at a considerable disadvantage in Sequence. ![]() This means you’ll have fewer cards than the other players. If you fail to do this before the next player takes their turn then you can’t go back and draw one. You’ll also need to pick up another card from the deck as well. Once you have played your card and placed a chip, you need to discard the card you played. You do this by choosing a card from your hand, then placing a chip on that corresponding card on the board. Players simply need to build a row of 5 poker chips. Winning Sequence might sound quite simple at first glance. Now, to find out exactly how to play and win, read on. The player to the left of the dealer will go first. The red poker chips are only used if there are 3 teams/ players. Each team/ player will then choose a color of poker chips. Remember, the number of cards dealt will depend on the number of players. They’ll then deal out cards to the players. The player who gets the lowest card will become the dealer. To do this, each player should take a single card from the shuffled deck in the center. But, you first need to decide which player/ team goes first. Once all the teams/ players are ready, you are almost ready to play. If you are playing with 3 players or teams then you only need to complete 1 sequence to win. If you are playing with 2 players or teams then you will need to complete 2 sequences to win. To understand how this works, check out the table below. The number of players you have will also affect how many cards people are dealt as well. This means it can only be played with 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, or 12 people. Also, Sequence can only really be played (under traditional rules) with numbers of people that are divisible by 2 or 3. However, if more than 3 people are playing then players will need to play in teams. ![]() Sequence is an unusual game, because it can be played with between 2 to 12 people. We have a lot more to talk about when it comes to learning how to play Sequence. Now, of course, things aren’t quite that simple. The place you put chips will correspond to the cards you have in your hand. But the aim of the game is quite simple, you need to form row/s of poker chips on the board. When it comes to learning how to play Sequence it’s easy to get overwhelmed. The product below gives you a great example of what to look out for. However, due to the complicated nature of Sequence, we strongly recommend sticking to the standard/ traditional set. But you’ll find junior/ kids versions, variants that swap out playing cards for letters or numbers, and even a version that uses dice. It doesn’t rival the number of themed Monopoly sets available. There are actually a number of different themed Sequence sets available as well. These sets will include a game board, a deck of cards, and poker chips. To play Sequence you’ll need a Sequence set. This brings us nicely to the next point, what you’ll need to play Sequence. Which, given the history of many other board games is quite surprising. The game is still available through Jax Ltd today. However, it wasn’t till 1982 that the game was released by Jax Ltd. Sequence was created by Douglas Reuter, during the 1970s. So, if you are a fan of more complicated, strategy games then Sequence could be for you. It’s officially called an abstract strategy card game. The board itself is pretty big as well, so it’s easy to see why this game can appear a little intimidating. Sequence is rather unusual as it uses playing cards, poker chips, and a game board. We’ll look at everything you need to know, including the rules, game variants, and all the equipment you need to play. If you want to learn how to play Sequence, then our in-depth guide can help. But don’t worry, this game, while by no means simple, isn’t quite as complicated as you might think. Few games can look as intimidating as Sequence. ![]() ![]() Talking about safety: there is even a compartment to house an optional back protector, should you want extra peace of mind. As if a stunning 4-kilometer long beach with soft, powdery sand and crystal clear water weren’t enough, Boracay also boasts some of the most memorable sunsets I’ve seen anywhere in the world. For the first time in months, I was able to relax 100%. I spent hours just staring out at the water, listening to the sound of the softly clashing waves. I had been wanting to visit Boracay, famous for its ridiculously pretty White Beach, for years, and this travel dream finally came true. Read more about my time in Manila here: Living it up in Manilaįrom Manila, I flew to Boracay, because I was craving some beach time. But I’ll let the photos speak for themselves – visit the Philippines virtually through my pictures: It all started when I flew into Manila, and the capital couldn’t have been more surprising – I expected to hate it because everyone who had visited the city seemed to thoroughly dislike it. The many faces of the Philippines were fascinating, the marine life breathtaking, the people welcoming and kind. When I sat in one of Manila’s third-wave coffee shops, located in one of the shiny fancy malls, after returning from Palawan, I couldn’t believe that a day earlier, I had shared the road with ox carts and that I didn’t even have cell phone reception in El Nido – now I was surrounded by people who were all glued to their smartphones again. Whenever people ask me about my favorite places in South East Asia, I can’t stop gushing over the picture-perfect beaches I visited, the lush green islands with their scenic rice fields and softly swaying palm trees, a stark contrast to the urban sprawl of Manila which is rapidly turning into a modern, advanced city rivaling Singapore and Bangkok with the number of skyscrapers and shopping malls that continue to emerge in the ever growing capital. I’m already daydreaming about my next trip to this gorgeous country, and I can’t wait to visit all the places I didn’t make it to the first time around. I am sharing my island hopping journey in pictures, and I hope that these photos will convince you to visit the Philippines. This is my very last post about the Philippines – at least for now.
